Mangaluru, Mar 1: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary informed that the state government is mulling to gather accurate date of differently-abled people in the state in order to provide them necessary facilities.
Poojary was speaking after inaugurating the various facility distribution programme, under the poverty eradication cell of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) that was held at Kudmul Ranga Rao memorial Town Hall in the city on Monday March 1.
Poojary further said, "This survey is intended to know the accurate number of differently-abled persons in the state so that some changes can be made in the medical facilities that are provided to them.
"It is the responsibility of the government to identify the houses that do not have toilets and electricity connection in city limits and provide them the necessary facilities. The work of giving stress on that is being done. Smart City work is also taking pace in the city. It is really appreciable that facilities are being distributed under the poverty eradication cell of MCC on the last day of mayor, deputy mayor and standing committee,” he said.
In the programme, Rs 4,11,216 were distributed to 12 beneficiaries under the 24.10% reserve fund. Equipment worth Rs 2,64,600 were distributed to 59 beneficiaries under the 7.25% reserve fund and various equipment worth Rs 45,05,521 were distributed to 688 beneficiaries under 5% welfare programme for differently-abled people.
House keys were handed over to 32 civic workers who work under MCC limits.
MLAs Vedavyasa Kamath and Dr Bharath Shetty, mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar, deputy mayor Vedavathi alias Janaki, chief whip Premananda Shetty, president of MCC standing committee Jagadish Shetty, Poornima and Sharath Kumar were present.
