Beltangady, Mar 1: Niyaz Panakaje from Madanthyar Panakaje underwent his education and also secured his PhD doctorate by working as a coolie since he was young.
The thesis on the 'Role of corporate banking in socio economic development of rural Muslim communities - A study in DK district of Karnataka', has been approved by the university which granted him PhD for the same.
Niyaz is the son of Ibrahim and Zubaida couple from Panakaje. Hailing from a very poor family, Niyaz worked as a coolie including as an agricultural labourer, mason and as domestic servant, to fund his education. He used money so earned to get education. He also delivered newspapers to support his dream of pursuing higher education. He completed his MCom degree through St Agnes centre here.
Niyaz has already published over 55 research essays and participated in symposium where he effectively put forth his views. He got his MCom degree from St Agnes PG Centre Mangaluru. In 2017, he secured his K-set through Mysore University.
He has now been working as an assistant professor in Srinivas College, Pandeshwar here. He has not totally stopped doing work as a coolie even now.
