Mumbai, Mar 1: The Special Task Force of the railway police arrested two history sheeters for looting a senior citizen of jewellery worth 2 lac at Malad station.

The accomplices are yet to be nabbed. The modus operandi of the gang was to sorround the target with a crowd and confuse him then snatch the bag within seconds before dispersing.

Rajendra Shah (63), was said to have gone to Mumbaidevi to pick jewellery for his son's wedding. While returning, he took a local train. Around 8.35 pm, on February 23 while he was on an FOB in Malad East, he was overwhelmed by a crowd while his pouch of jewellery disappeard. Shah then lodged a complaint at the Borivali GRP post.

Upon investigation, with the help of CCTV footage of Malad station the police were able to identify Bablu Sheik (39) from the crowd as the police was aware of his modus operandi. Bablu was traced with his associate Naeem Shaikh, using his network of informants at a jewellery shop at Nala Sopara. Shah's jewellery was recovered .

The police revealed that Bablu has a lengthy criminal history with cases at LT Marg, Malad, Kapurbavdi, Rabodi, Virar and CST GRP police stations.
