Mangaluru: Teenager from Shivamogga drowns at beach in Suratkal

Mangaluru, Feb 28: In a tragic incident, a teenager drowned at Guddekopla beach in Suratkala here on Sunday February 28.

The deceased has been identified as Mubarak Ayub Khan (15), a native of Shivamogga.

Sources said that Mubarak along with his family members had come to Mangaluru on Saturday February 27. On Sunday, the family visited the beach.

While the family were enjoying at the beach, Mubarak alone went into the sea, sources said. He suddenly got washed away by the waves and his father rushed to rescue him.

His father too was washed away by the waves. A few fishermen who were at the beach rushed to his help and managed to rescue him. However, Mubarak could not be found.

Fire service personnel, coastal security and local fishermen launched a search operation for Mubarak, and finally, with the help of fishing nets, his body was retrieved by evening.

Suratkal police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

    DC should take an initiative to identify the spot for swimming at every beach location with a trained sea experts. It could minimise such types of loses as well as create some employment for local boys. RIP ....Ayub Khan!

    The outsiders specially coming from other parts of Karnataka when they see a beach and are excited by the sight of water and just want to go for dip without knowing the perils of the mighty ocean. Because of this we the people of the coast are suffering because of the life guards at the beaches in Mangalore, we Mangaloreans know are limits while we go for swim at the beach. Very sad may his soul rest in peace.
