Kundapur, Feb 27: “Why do we need a government that does not respond to the grievances of people during the corona pandemic?” asked Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar. “BJP at the centre and the state are running the governments forgetting the welfare of people. The government’s harassment has increased after the pandemic. While financial crisis is created, ordinary people are devastated by the exorbitant prices of essential commodities. People are anguished due to the anti-people administration of the governments. We are awakening the government at this juncture through Janadhwani Padayatra,” he said.
He spoke on Saturday February 27 during the conclusion at Byndoor of the Congress Janadhwani Padayatra from Hejmady to Byndoor held against government’s anti-people policies. “Janadhwani Padayatra is not a Congress programme but a symbol of people’s pain. People are showing their everyday pain and suffering through this rally. All the leaders have shown their unity in the rally making the government open their eyes,” he said.
“Corporation Bank, Syndicate Bank and Vijaya Bank which were born here once upon a time were nationalized by the late Indira Gandhi. Why was the local MP quiet though the banks were merged all of a sudden? Did the government not bury the banks that gave strength to the nation?” he asked.
“The government has failed to listen to the voice of the people. The farmers in the country are campaigning relentlessly but the prime minister is not visiting them to listen to their demands. The government is busy privatizing government establishments,” he said.
“While the earlier government stressed on nationalization, the current government is privatizing the organizations. Jobs are not created. Weavers, members of Savita Samaja and tailors lost six month’s work during Lockdown. The government did not respond to the pain of those who lost work for months. Fishermen are not getting diesel subsidy since the last five months. Whom should they speak to? Why do we need the government that does not respond to the problems of people?” he asked.
“Janadhwani Padayatra will continue in all the districts. Congress flag will fly high again at Vidhan Saudha in 2023,” he said confidently.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Abhayachandra Jain, Pramod Madhwaraj, former MLA K Gopal Poojary, M A Gafoor, Mithun Rai, district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Raju Poojary, Madan Kumar, Pradeep Kumar Shetty Gudibettu and others were present.
