Puttur, Feb 24: Mohammad Saifulla (32), a teacher of the Arabic school at Sullia, was arrested by the Uppinangady police on Tuesday February 23 on the allegation of sexually harassing a girl student when travelling by a bus. A case stands registered against him.
The incident happened on a bus moving towards Uppinangady from Dharmasthala. The accused happens to be a native of Chikkamagaluru. It is said that when travelling by the bus, he often touched the girl and harassed her. The girl student objected to his behaviour and complained the bus conductor.
The driver directly stopped the bus opposite Uppinangady police station and helped in handing over the accused to the police. The police arrested the man after getting a complaint from the student.
In a similar incident, on Monday night, a girl student was travelling to Mangaluru from Bengaluru when a passenger named Rafiq had allegedly harassed her. A relative of the girl student had questioned Rafiq at Uppinangady bus stand. A gang which came in support of the accused had assaulted the student's relative at the said bus stand.
Uppinangady police, who got information, in a swift operation, took the accused into custody and allowed him to go sometime later after issuing a warning.
