Mangaluru, Feb 22: The driver of a tipper truck, which was transporting sand through the inside road instead of highway, lost control of the vehicle and hit a coconut tree and turned upside down. This incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday February 22.
Fortunately, the tipper overturned within a stone's throw of Devipura temple and did not collide against the wall of the temple. A woman, who was coming out of the temple miraculously escaped coming under the truck.
The locals accuse that this accident has occurred when the sand was being illegally transported to Kerala. As the Covid check point has started functioning on the highway, the driver of the tipper tried to avoid that road as there policemen in large numbers and took an inner road as per the accusation of the locals.
The sand trucks which used to ply during night, have started transporting sand through the inner roads of Devipura in day time also. Locals are scared to complain about the sand mafia to the police. This has made the sand mafia use these inside roads which are narrow to transport the sand.
Locals have registered a case at Naguri traffic police station.
