Kundapur, Feb 22: "The first ever 'surgical strike' of India against foreigners took place in Basrur which was the base of Portuguese and Dutch. That was carried out by Chathrapathi Shivaji. On that day itself Shivaji took an oath to build Hindu kingdom from the land of Kannada. This is a proud matter for all of us. It is not right to limit Shivaji to one particular caste or language," said Chakravarty Sulibele, founder of Yuva Brigade.
Sulibele was speaking at the programme that was organised in memory of Shivaji Maharaj, who came to Basrur and freed Basrur from the clutches of Portuguese in the 16th century, at Basrur on Sunday February 21.
He further said, "The country is actually moving in the path that was laid by Shivaji centuries ago. Our country has the ability to face all the foreign countries. Adventure and courage of Shivaji is the inspiration behind this achivement. I have the intention of establishing museums in the name of Shivaji and Keladi Chennamma.
"It is really mean that Shivaji is opposed just because he is Marathi. You support foreigners who gave call to farmers' protest. Are they Kannadigas?" he questioned.
"Shivaji's fight, sacrifice, hardwork and dedication to build Hindu Kingdom is a model to all of us. Shivaji should be our inspiration for us to stand united against anyone who speaks lowly about Hindu Samaj. Shivaji is the power behind the Hindu Kingdom. He is the one who created awareness among the Hindus," said Halaveerappa Swamiji of Hadagali Hala Samsthana.
Administrative trustee of Basrur Sri Mahalingeshwara temple B Appanna Hegde also spoke on the occasion. A mammoth bike rally was organized on the occasion. Sri Vishwaprasannatheertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math took part in the rally. Youth arrived from Karwar, Shivamogga and Mysuru on bikes and joined the convention. More than 5,000 people were present.
Chandrashekhar Nanjanagud, convener of Yuva Brigade south province did the introductory speech. Vardhaman Tyagi welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by chief secretary of BJP Sathish Kumar Vakwadi.
