Mumbai, Feb 20: Four persons were arrested by the Mumbai police on Friday, February 19 allegedly involved in stealing money from banks using fake credit and debit cards.

The police swiftly acted on a tip-off and nabbed three of them with the possession of a skimmer, nine cards with a magnetic strip, seven debit cards, three mobile phones and Rs 27,000 in cash. Upon interrogation, the nabbed named the main accused who was later tracked and arrested by the police.

The fraud came to light recently after a deputy manager of a bank lodged a complaint with the police station stating that money was withdrawn from the accounts of several customers using fake debit and credit cards between November 2020 and January 2021. The money was getting debited even though the actual account holders did not receive any OTP, the complaint stated.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the MIDC police station against unidentified person and a probe began. It was found that most of the transactions were done from a hotel at Mahakali Caves in Andheri East using debit and credit cards. The police managed to nab the gang. It was found that similar offences have been registered against the main accused at Oshiwara and Kherwadi earlier.
