Mangalore, Jun 29: The committee formed to investigate the case in which pesticides meant for distribution among the horticulturists were dumped in a well in Kadri Park here some time back, has completed its work. The report is likely to be submitted to the zilla panchayat chief executive officer on Tuesday June 29 or Wednesday.
The recovery of huge amount of pesticides and other items from a well in the city had created a furor. It was found that the department of horticulture had taken the things in a vehicle and thrown them there. The driver of the vehicle concerned had committed suicide the next day, and the department employees had said that the driver was innocent, as he had obeyed the orders of the higher ups in the department.
A committee formed under the chief accounts officer of the local zilla panchayat with the joint director and assistant director of the department of agriculture as its members, had been conducting the investigation since about a week. The CEO had asked the committee to submit its report by June 25. There are allegations that top officials of the department in the district level are responsible for the said incident.
Distict in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, had recently asserted at the Karnataka Development Programme meeting held in the zilla panchayat that no officials found guilty would be shielded. It is likely that the report will be sent to the director or secretary of the department of horticulture at Bangalore for further action.
