Mumbai, Jun 23 (IANS): The Shiv Sena Wednesday denounced the central government's efforts to provide more government jobs to minorities, saying it amounted to an "Islamisation" of India.
In a scathing editorial in its mouthpiece Saamna, the Sena said that there had been a large increase in the number of government jobs given to Muslims.
Basing its argument on figures released by the central government, it said that more and more Muslims were being employed in railways and public sector banks.
It said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had written to all government departments to accord priority to minorities in employment.
"Though this should mean jobs to Dalits, Jains and Sikhs, for the Congress, minority only implies Muslims - its vote bank," the Saamna said.
The Saamna claimed that the government proposed to spend another Rs.30,000 crore for the benefit of Muslims. The "Congress has started the 'Islamisation' of India", it said.
"The Congress apparently feels that the government treasury is like their party's election fund for the 25 crore Muslims," the editorial said.
