Mumbai, June 21: Konkan Taram – Jerimeri honoured the SSC topper by organizing a felicitation programme at St Jude Church here on Sunday June 20.
It was an honour for the Konkani-speaking Catholics as Jonita D’Souza, who hails from a Mangalorean Konkani-speaking family, scored 91.4% in the SSC board examination of Maharashtra and turned out to be the topper in St Jude high school - Jerimeri.
Even though it is a Catholic organized high school, surprisingly the percentage of Catholic students in St Jude High School is just about 10%. Last year it was Ashwin D’Souza who was the topper and this year it is Jonita D’Souza, the only daughter of John D’Souza and Anita D’Souza (from Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Fazir, Mangalore) residing at Jerimeri Mumbai.
Another record created by St Jude High School is that it bagged cent per cent for the first time in the history of St Jude High School, Jerimeri. On behalf of Fr Frank Fernandes, principal, St Jude High School, Fr Theo Fernandes presented the flower bouquet to Jonita D’Souza. Also Leo D’Souza, assistant treasurer of Konkan Taram presented a gift voucher and appreciation certificate on behalf of Konkan Taram to Jonita D’Souza.
Thereafter during the get together, Leo D’Souza who celebrated his birthday on Sunday was honoured by Konkan Taram for his selfless service and John D’Sa, a senior guest presented flower bouquet to Leo D’Souza. Konkan Taram secretary Fora D’Souza compered the programme and all Konkani speaking parishioners of St.Jude Church, parish priest, sisters of Snehanjali and all members of Konkan Taram were present at the felicitation programme.
