New Delhi, June 19 (IANS) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a special annual general meeting July 3 to decide the fate of supended Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi.

"Yes, BCCI has called a special annual general meeting to discuss the issue of Modi," a top-level source told IANS.

While no BCCI top brass was willing to go on record, speculation was abuzz that BCCI is likely to pass a resolution in the meeting to sack Modi.

A decision to remove Modi can be taken after it is passed by a two-third majority in that meeting.

Modi has replied to all the three showcase notices of board in which he was charged with financial irregularities, bid rigging and trying to set up a parallel league in England.

Modi, in his reply to first showcause, submitted tomes of documents running into over 12,000 pages, which is a virtual chargesheet against all his IPL Governing Council colleagues.

Modi also said he wanted an independent panel to go through his reply, not any GC or Board member who is party to the decisions as that amounts to sitting in judgment over their own decisions.

A three-member panel comprising BCCI president Shashank Manohar, board vice president Arun Jaitley and interim IPL chairman Chirayu Amin, was formed to go through Modi's reply.
