Mangaluru, Jan 21: Based on intelligence Customs sleuths of Mangaluru International Airport, one passenger from Dubai, was intercepted and gold worth Rs 44.2 lac was recovered and seized on Thursday January 21.
The passenger is identified as Ubaid Baliyath Azeez hailing from Madikeri. He had arrived from Dubai by Air India flight IX 1814.
On personal search, the passenger was found to have concealed gold in paste form in his rectum.
Commssioner of Customs Imamuddin Ahmed IRS has commended officers of Mangalore Air Customs team lead by Dr Kapil Gade IRS, deputy commissioner, and officers Shrikanth K, superintendent; Manokathayini, superintendent; Ashish Kumar, inspector and others for their consistent anti-smuggling efforts.
