Panaji: Thieves break into church, rob Rs 35,000

Panaji, Jan 21: A theft took place at St Alex Church Calangute where nearly Rs 35,000 cash was allegedly stolen. The theft came to light on Monday January 18.

The thieves reportedly cut an iron grill fixed into the window and then unlocked the latch. The money stolen was collected from devotees at recent masses. The unknown accused also took away the CCTV camera.

Fr Polly Lobo, the parish priest of Calangute parish was not present when the incident took place. A complaint has been lodged at Calangute police station.

    Rs. 35,000/- ??? Peanuts as compared to some thefts take place in others' places worship and loot gold/diamond articles.

    May not even worth the trouble.
