Margao: Cultivate More Land Using Latest Technology - Alemao

Margao, Jun 16: Goa's Rural Development Agency (RDA) minister, Churchill Alemao called upon the farmers to cultivate more and more land using latest agriculture technology and by taking financial assistance.

Alemao was speaking as a chief guest at the fertilizer distribution function held at Varca, Salcete taluk. He further said that agriculture is one of the major economic activities in Goa and paddy is the main agricultural crop. In order to encourage paddy growers the Government has been giving incentives. The farmers should take the benefit of various agricultural schemes provided by the Government, he added.

Under the NREG programme Government provides employment to unskilled people and wages of Rs 150 per day.He also listed various schemes meant for BPL people and said they should come forward and take the benefit of BPL scheme. So far 50,000/- people have been included in the BPL list and total two lac people will be included in the State of Goa, he informed.

Sarpanch of Varca Vincentina Fernandes, deputy Sarpanch Anthony Pinto, Filomen Barreto, Nazareth Pinto, Merilin assistant director of RDA Anjelo Fernandes also spoke on the occasion. Director of DRDA, Mervin Vaz was also present. Agnelo Fernandes welcomed and proposed the vote of thanks.

Earlier the RDA minister distributed fertilizers to the farmers at Orlim. Deputy Sarpanch Babila Vaz welcomed the gathering. Shirley Braz proposed vote of thanks.
