Beltangady, Jan 18: In an incident which happened on Monday January 18 near Gardady in the taluk, a man savagely beat his father to death. It is learnt that he was angry at his father's refusal to accept his wife as daughter-in-law.
Harish Poojary (27), has been accused of murdering his father, Sridhar Poojary (55), resident of Mundkottu in Gardady village. Sridhar is survived by wife, two sons, and a daughter.
Harish used to work as a construction worker at Bengaluru. He had fallen in love with a girl there and married her. Recently, he returned and settled down at his native place. His father was angry at his son's decision to marry a girl from another caste without obtaining the family's consent. On this issue, the father-son duo used to fight often. On Monday, Harish, who was heavily drunk, attacked his father with a piece of wood, it is said. Sridhar Poojary died after he was hit in the head, the police officials confirmed.

Beltangady police circle inspector Sandesh P G, and staff visited the spot and conducted inquest. They also arrested the accused. They have registered a case and taken up investigation.
