Ramanagar, Jan 17: Former chief minister and MLA of Channapatna constituency H D Kumaraswamy, along with family on Saturday January 17 offered 'Thappu Kanike' of Rs 101 at the Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Jalamangala village of the taluk.
In 2004, when H D Kumaraswamy had contested from Ramanagar constituency, villagers had raised slogans that Kumaraswamy would be the next chief minister of Karnataka. Responding to the sloganeering of the villagers, Kumaraswamy had said that he would not take chief minister's or ministerian post. He had even made the same statement in front of the deity.
Later however, following a series of political events, Kumaraswamy became chief minister of the state twice, but could not complete full term both times.
The villagers of Jalamangala believe that if Kumaraswamy asks for forgiveness for not keeping his word and also offers 'Thappu Kanike', he will again become the chief minister of Karnataka and complete five years' term.
Accordingly, Kumaraswamy visited the temple and offered the specified amount and prayed for forgiveness.
His wife Anitha Kumaraswamy, Youth JD(S) president and son Nikhil Kumaraswamy and other family members were present.
