Beltangady, Jan 12: Out of the two brothers from Ujire in the taluk who have been accused of earning the trust of a lady by promising to Mary her, raping her, and then pressurizing her to change her religion to Islam, stands arrested. He was arrested by Chennammanakere Achukattu police in Bengaluru on Monday January 11.
The arrested man happens to be Shabbir Ahmed (28) from Ujire. A police team is on a visit to Ujire to arrest Shabbir's brother, Mohammed Rilwan.
The aggrieved 19-year-old complainant used to work as the receptionist for a spa at Bengaluru. She has said that Shabbir introduced himself to her two years back, duly claiming that he was the owner of a star hotel. He made her leave her job and saw to it that she got a job as receptionist for a hotel at Brigade Road here. She has alleged that she was raped thereafter.

The lady claimed that Mohammed Rilwan worked as a supervisor in a hotel where the girl was employed. He reportedly sought an apology for the act of his brother, earned her confidence, promised to marry her, and raped her. On November 20, 2020, he also participated in an engagement ceremony where date for registered marriage was fixed as January 6, 2021 while the traditional marriage function date was fixed as January 21. He also borrowed Rs 1.5 lac from her parents, the lady stated.
Later, in the guise of obtaining Dubai visa, he got her to sign some sheets of paper and then applied pressure on her to convert into Islam. She stated that he raped her often during the last six to seven months period and has now switched off his mobile phone. She says that as per her information, Rilwan proposes to marry another girl now.
