Mangaluru, Jan 11: During the monsoon season, the hillock behind the circuit house here had slid down and a huge landmass was deposited on the road. The spot still poses danger. The people's representatives, who had promised to undertake permanent repairs once the summer season starts, have not done anything to meet their promises so far.
It can be seen that the soil of the hillock on the left side of the road leading to Bejai from the circuit house, is getting looser with the passage of time. For the last two years, mud has been depositing on the road. Temporary measures have been undertaken by stacking sandbags at the spot where the landslide happened. When it rains incessantly, using this road can be dangerous.
Above the road, the circuit house and compound wall are located. This road is used by thousands of vehicles every day and the road on one side might get blocked if the mud falls again. It will be more problematic if the mud is deposited on some passing vehicle. Soil nailing, which has successfully been implemented at a few places in the city, appears to be the only technical solution for this landslide.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath said that he has asked the city corporation to reserve a grant under the premier FAR and that he will follow up the matter by convening a meeting of officials.
