Puttur, Jan 9: The road widening work on Kemmayi-Sediyapu stretch of Uppinangady-Puttur road has been going on at brisk pace.

The road between Puttur and Uppinangady is 10.2 km long. The road between Harady and Krishnanagara had been converted into four lanes during the period Shakuntala Shetty was the MLA. Now, the four kilometre stretch between Kemmayi and Sediyapu is being converted into a four-lane one at a cost of Rs 12 crore.

Including the drain, a 22-metre wide road is being laid. Over a hundred trees and about 70 electric poles have been cleared. Wherever necessary, the drinking water pipeline to the city which is underground, is being shifted.

This road has been included in state highway 118. The road connects three national highways, Mani-Mysru, Mangaluru-Bengaluru, and Mangaluru-Villulpuram. MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, said that the proposal to widen the road till Nekkilady has already been submitted and that in the coming days, the entire Puttur-Uppinangady road will become a four-lane road.
