Mangaluru, Jan 9: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje on Saturday January 9 said, "D K Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah are worried about the BJP-led state and union governments as they are involved in pro-development works. Even during the time of distress during coronavirus pandemic, both the governments worked to protect the life of people by providing them treatment and reimbursing their bills."
She was speaking to the media after her press meet on Brahmakalashotsava of Sri Kshetra Kemmale on the premises of Garodi in Kankanady here.
Answering the queries of the media, she said, “Congress party, which is losing its presence, is unnecessarily hurling allegations at BJP. Congress lost all the elections that took place in the state after Shivakumar assumed power as state Congress president. Hence, he is confused, and there is no prominence to his statements.”
To a query on Congress organising its first divisional representatives’ special meeting in Dakshina Kannada, she said, "Shivakumar is following the BJP's programmes and tours. Shivakumar has no support from people. He has no support of his own party workers. There is confusion within their own party. Siddaramaiah himself is not accepting the working style of Shivakumar. To hide their own confusion, he is hurling allegations at BJP, Narendra Modi and BS Yediyurappa. People are aware of Congress that what it did to the people in the past 50 years to the country. Earlier, it was easy to fool people. Today it is not so easy because of the media and social media and people are very intelligent.”
Commenting on Siddaramaiah's confusing statement on consumption of beef, she said, “Siddaramaiah may be a progressive leader but he is hurting the sentiments of Hindus and Kodavas. He claimed that Kodavas consume beef. He says that even he consumes beef. Community leaders should speak out over this issue or Siddaramaiah should himself clarify that he is insulting a particular community. He himself is in confusion. To appease a particular community, he is playing such drama. You have no right or power to hurt the sentiments of Hindu and Kodavas.”
Speaking on the pro-Pakistan sloganeering in Ujire, she said, "Today, society should wake up. SDPI members, who were responsible for the deaths of many BJP activists, and raising of pro-Pakistan slogans, are making their stand clear. It is clear that they are in whose favour. After availing every kind of facilities in this country, they are speaking in favour of Pakistan. Time is not too far, to declare them as anti-nationals. There is a need for change in the law. Hence, we will hold discussion with the government in this regard."
When questioned about allegation against BJP’s party workers in the pro-Pakistan sloganeering case, she said, “Our party workers will never utter such words. This is a game of treachery. Hey are making unnecessary allegation to hide their weakness, treachery and anti-national activities. Those SDPI activists who raise pro-Pakistan slogans should be arrested and sent to jail.”
