Beltangady, Jan 9: In a scary incident which happened on the night of Thursday January 7, a man who was heavily intoxicated, murdered his wife. This incident happened near Kochithara Gandibagilu in Neriya village.
In this incident, Johnson (47), resident of Gandibagilu Kochithara, has been accused of murdering his wife, Soumya Francis (40).
Both Soumya and Johnson were natives of Iritty in Kerala. They started to live near Gandibagilu after acquiring agricultural land there many years back. Both of them worked as rubber tappers. Johnson had married Soumya 13 years ago and the couple had a ten-year-old daughter.
It is said that since sometime, Johnson along with his father Mathew and mother Mary, often inflicted mental and physical torture on Soumya on silly pretexts. In continuance of this habit, at around 11 pm on Thursday, Johnson attacked his wife with a piece of wood. Soumya, who suffered serious injuries, collapsed. With the help of some locals, she was taken to a private hospital. She passed away when being taken to Mangaluru for further treatment.
Soumya's brother, Sanoj Fernandes, filed a complaint in Dharmasthala police station relating to this incident. Based on the complaint, Beltangady police circle inspector Sandesh P G, guided a team of Dharmasthala police led by police sub-inspector Pawan Kumar, in the operation to arrest Johnson. The arrested accused is being questioned.
