Mumbai, Jun 9: The Rajeev Gandhi Environment Award was conferred on Dr Augustine F Pinto, a leading educationist of our country and founder chairman of St Xavier’s and Ryan International Group of Education Institutions, by the Indian Nationalist Congress at Rabindranath Tagore Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Dadar (West), here recently.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Manikrao Thackeray presided over the function.
Maharashtra chief minister Ashokrao Chavan presented the award to Ryan International Group managing director Grace Pinto in the absence of her husband Dr Pinto.
Mumbai Pradesh Congress Committee president Kripashankar Singh, Maharashtra Pradesh Women Congress committee former president Shyamala Sone, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee environment unit executive president Ashokrao, and spokesperson Nithin Kale were present.
Dr Pinto is a leading educationist who has served as sheriff of the metro in 2000. He hails from Nirude in Mangalore taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
He is also serving the president of National Development Foundation, and editor of ‘Hello Student’ bulletin.
