Kuwait, Jan 6: Family of labourer Hasim Fareed Saab of Shivamogga origin has alleged suspicion in the death of their kin in Kuwait and have urged for an in-depth inquiry into his death.

The family members of the deceased have sent a letter in this regard through the rural police station of Sagar in Shivamogga district to the additional secretary of internal administration of Karnataka government and deputy commissioner D(C)of Shivamogga to the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. However, it is alleged that the letter has not even reached the office of the additional secretary.

Hasim Fareed Saab

Hasim Fareed Saab, resident of Talagoppa in Sagar of Shivamogga district, died in Mahaboola of Kuwait on December 25, 2020. It is said that in the WhatsApp group of the company where Hasim worked carried the message on the same day saying that Hasim had gone to swim in the sea and died due to drowning. On the other hand, the official of the company had called the relatives of Hasim in India and conveyed that Hasim had committed suicide by jumping into the sea.

Later, the family of Hasim brought the matter to the notice of the relatives of Hasim, who are employed in Kuwait. When Hasim's friends and relatives inspected the room in which Hasim used to reside, they found blood stains on the bed of Hasim. They immediately informed the family members of Hasim that his death looks suspicious.

The family of Hasim have sent an email to the Indian embassy in Kuwait on December 28 to conduct a suitable inquiry into the death of Hasim and also send his mortal remains to his native place in Shivamogga. It is learnt that the family members of the deceased have also sent a letter in this regard through the rural police station of Sagar and DC of Shivamogga to the additional secretary of government of Karnataka alleging foul play in the death of the youth.

When the family members of the deceased Hasim went personally to the office of the additional secretary on January 4 to check the progress of their appeal, it is learnt that the officials said that the appeal has not yet reached them. Without the appeal letter, the government of Karnataka cannot take any action in this regard according to the personnel of the office of the additional secretary.

The family members are saying that the process is getting delayed due to the non-receipt of letter by the office of the additional secretary. They have urged the concerned officials of government of Karnataka and centre to take interest in the matter in order to fasten the process.

Meanwhile, Mabia Adam, of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association, has informed that the process of repatriating the mortal remains of Hasim is in progress and his post-mortem report has also arrived. According to the post mortem report, he has died of heart attack, as per the report given by local authority of Indian embassy in Kuwait.

Winters are more cold in Kuwait when compared to our part of the country. People don’t venture for swimming in the sea during this season. Secondly inexperienced forensic doctors in Kuwait in many cases just write heart attack as the cause of death and close the file instead of going through the tiresome job of investigations. Our embassy accepts their report without questioning its authenticity, unless it is a high profile case and until there is pressure from New Delhi. Indeed very sad and pathetic situation if a poor helpless person dies in a country like Kuwait.

Getting things done in a middle east country for a dead person is next to impossible without a powerful influential person or organization. But in this case it is disgusting to note that our own lethargy of officials has delayed action. Imagine the pain of a poor family , whose breadwinner dies young with ample evidence of foul play. My sympathy and prayers to the family.
