Udupi, Jan 4: Shirva police arrested one person on the accusation of illegally selling beef.
Acting on definite information, Shail D M, sub-inspector, Shirva police station, along with his personnel, visited the spot near the house of Kairullah, near Topanangadi, Boothottu in Shirva, and hid themselves. They later raided the place.
The accused tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended by the police. On inquiry, he admitted that his name is Mohammed Khalid (36), residing at Topanangady, Boothottu. Later, the panchayat officials were called and when inspected around 75 to 80 kg of beef was found in his possession and also a slaughtered male calf. The accused confessed to the police that he buys cattle, slaughters them and sells the meat for livelihood.
The accused said that he does not have any permit for selling the meat. He was arrested by the police and the beef and dead male calf was confiscated.
A case in this connection is registered at Shirva police station.
