Mangaluru, Jan 3: Taking a dig at SDPI and BJP, district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai said that SDPI is working as BJP's agent.
Speaking during the press meet at Congress Bhavan on Sunday January 3, he said, “SDPI is an alliance of BJP. SDPI is working as BJP's agent. Very soon people will come to know the true colour of SDPI. Congress is not restricted to any religion. People from the minority communities are the power of Congress. Only Congress can protect the interests of minority communities.”
On the objectionable and blasphemous writings dropped in offertory boxes of 'Daivasthanas' in a few places in the city, he said, "Such heinous incidents is a strategy to disrupt the communal harmony. It is also a black mark to the district.
“The entire district is well known for communal harmony and brotherhood. There are several religious centres depicting communal harmony. But, some perverted minds are trying to bring discord among the faiths,” he said.
He called upon members of different communities to boycott such perverted minds from the community.
He urged the newly appointed police commissioner N Shashi Kumar to form a special team to conduct a probe into such incidents and punish them so that such acts never be repeated.
Terming such heinous acts as ‘sowing the seeds of hatred among the communities’, he said that he would appeal the mayor and commissioner of the city corporation to install CCTV cameras outside religious centres.
Honnayya, administrator of one of the 'Daivasthana' said, "Blasphemous writings and objectionable things were found in the offering box which is kept on the roadside outside the 'Daivasthana'. Hence, the act was not captured on the CCTVs.
State youth Congress president election
Speaking on the internal elections for the post of state president of Youth Congress, Mithun Rai said, "The party has shortlisted my name for the post of state Youth Congress president. Among 10 aspirants, even my name has been shortlisted for the post. Very soon, internal elections will be held for the post."
When asked about the 'satisfactory' performance of Congress in the gram panchayat polls, he said, "In Mulki-Moodbidri constituency, out of 12 panchayats, Congress has won 6 gram panchayats. Congress is successful in grabbing the panchayats which were not with Congress from the past 10 years."
