Udupi, Jan 2: A 12-year-old teen, who locked himself inside the bathroom for hours together as he was annoyed with the fact that his mother took away his mobile phone on which he was playing games, was rescued from the fourth floor of the apartment building where the family lived.
This incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 2 on the fourth floor of A1 apartments of MIT Manipal near here.
Leon, son of Kala, was playing video games on his mobile the whole night on Friday. Kala scolded him and took the mobile phone from her son by force. Out of anger, Leon went inside the bathroom and locked himself up and did not open the door in spite of repeated requests of his mother.
Out of frustration and fear, the desperate mother called fire service personnel as the apartment in which they live is on the fourth floor. The fire service personnel, who immediately reported to the spot, got down to the fourth floor from the top with the help of a rope and broke open the window of the bathroom and rescued the teenager, who was sleeping in a semi-conscious state.
Vasanth Kumar, chief officer of fire service squad, Ashwin Sanil, Sudhakar Devadiga, Ravi Nayak, driver Alwyn Prashanth, home guards Prabhakar, Dawood Hakim took part in the operation. They were supported by a team of MIT in the rescue act.
The effort of fire service personnel is lauded by the public.
