Kundapur, Jan 2: The food inspector and police personnel, in a raid they conducted at Koteshwar near here during the late night hours on Friday January 1, seized ration rice amounting to lacs of rupees that had been illegally stored for being sold in the open market.
During the preliminary investigation, it was found that Uday Kumar Shetty from Koteshwar, Ajam from Mangaluru and Rama Poojary from Udupi were the accused in the case. The accused have gone underground and the police have been making efforts to nab them.
The raid was conducted on a shed belonging to Uday Kumar Shetty on the backside of Nandi Hotel on Halady Road at Koteshwar, based on reliable information. Apparently, an effort was being made to transport the illegally stored ration rice elsewhere. Kundapur station house officer Sadashiva Gavaroji and staff along with food inspector, Suresh, raided the spot and took the stock of rice into possession. A total of 25,120 kg ration rice valued at Rs 3.77 lac, Ashok Leyland goods truck worth two lac rupees, Tata truck valued at four lac rupees, stitching machine worth Rs 2,000 and weighing machine valued at Rs 3,000 were taken into custody. A case was registered in Kundapur police station.
