Mangaluru, Jan 1: N Shashi Kumar has taken charge as new the police commissioner of Mangaluru replacing Vikash Kumar here on Friday, January 1.
N Shashikumar is 2007 batch IPS officer hailing from Chitradurga. He has a BSc in agriculture and has held the posts of the superintendent of police and DCP in other districts. He has also served as the SP-Wireless, Bengaluru.
Speaking to media, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, "It is not the first time I have visited the city. I have been to Mangaluru earlier as well to visit a couple of tourist and religious places. Mangaluru is a well-known city and I am delighted to serve as the police commissioner of the city. I will work with the officials of all the police stations across the city to ensure that problems pertaining to law and order and traffic are addressed."
"I urge the public and the stakeholders to join hands so that the city is free from criminal activities. I assure everyone that my team will work to fulfil the expectations of the people and address their grievances," said N Shashi Kumar.
When asked about the recent assaults on police, N Shashi Kumar said, "It is a serious offence and the accused in this matter will not be spared. Cops are working round the clock for the safety of citizens. Even at the time of COVID, they were on the frontlines, where they got exposed to the virus. It has been also observed that the chain-snatching incidents are on the rise in cities like Bengaluru and Mangaluru. The police department will take all the necessary measures to curb such incidents. The police have recently also launched single-emergency helpline number 112 where the problems are attended in the shortest time possible."
When asked about the police phone-in program, Shashi Kumar said, "I have no issues in conducting a police phone-in program to reach out to the people in the city. However, even the public should cooperate with the police help in fostering good policing system."
When asked about social media, N Shashi Kumar said, "Today social media is very effective, it can be used for good as well as for bad. If anti-social elements try to misuse these platforms, they will be dealt with according to the law. Further, there are a lot of students in this region if anything causes an adverse impact on the students we will definitely address it."
