Bengaluru, Jan 1: New year's eve has augured well for the excise department which could not do much business during a significant part of the year 2020 on account of lockdown. There has been an increase in the sale of hot drinks and beer in 2020.
On December 31, 2019, 3.62 lac boxes of Indian Made Liquor and 1.3 lac boxes of beer were sold, bringing in a revenue of Rs 119.97 crore. On December 31, 2020, the value of beer and Indian Made Liquor sold was worth Rs 150.94 crore.
During the last four days of the year 2020, liquor sales amounted to Rs 571 crore, which was higher as compared to the same period during the previous two years.
The excise department has been given a revenue target of Rs 22,700 crore for the year 2020-21 and the department is lagging behind a little this time. The department officials said that in spite of having been affected by coronavirus scare, they hope to make a smart recovery and reach the targetted figure by the financial year-end.
