Mangaluru, Jan 1: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, instructed the police department to maintain law and order situation in the district efficiently and strictly. He called upon the police officials to strive to bring down the number of criminal cases happening in the district.
He was speaking after presiding over a meeting on law and order situation in the district, which was held at the court hall in the office of the district deputy commissioner on Thursday December 31.
Noting that abductions, robbery, thefts, stabbing, murder and other criminal cases have been increasing in the district in the recent past, he urged the police officials to take all preventive measures to check them.
The minister said that the murderous assault that has taken place by unknown person in broad daylight against the police personnel in the city gives the impression that the criminals are least concerned about the legal implications. "This incident indicates that unknown hands are instigating innocent people with covert means. I urge the police to hold detailed probe into these incidents," he added.
Poojary mentioned about the incidents of raising anti-national slogans and appearance of terrorist-friendly graffiti in the city and insisted that legal measures need to be taken to bring to book those who indulge in such acts and others who instigate such people to indulge in crimes.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, mentioned about the allegations of illegal activities going on in service apartments. He said these things should be completely stopped, and see that late night DJ parties and liquor sales in private properties during late night hours should be stopped. He suggested increase in night beat and highway patrolling to bring down criminal cases and to deploy additional policemen at the border area check posts as there is a possibility of people from other states coming here to commit crimes. He wanted the police to closely observe movement of criminals and install CCTV cameras in strategic spots including circles and check posts. He wanted the drug cartel to be crushed completely. He also instructed the police to enforce road safety measures wherever necessary and position ambulances in highways to carry people injured in accidents. He also wanted chain snatching cases to be regulated.
Deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V, advised the police to identify people involved with crimes repeatedly, get bonds executed from them, and to include them in goonda list if they get involved with multiple crimes. He suggested for their externment from the district. He advised officials of different departments to work with cohesion to regulate law and order situation in the district and promised to provide grants for CCTV cameras from the district administration.
Mangaluru (north) MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, district superintendent of police B M Laxmi Prasad, city corporation commissioner Akshy Sridhar and other officials were present.
