Bengaluru: 'Selling buffalo, bull meat not prohibited in state’ - Law minister J C Madhuswamy

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Dec 28: Law minister J C Madhuswamy said that though the anti-cow slaughter bill is implemented in the state, there will be no prohibition on sale of beef obtained from buffalo and bull.

Speaking to media, after the cabinet meeting on Monday December 28, Madhuswamy said, "Though the new act will be implemented, there is no restriction in selling buffalo and bull meat. Only cow meat sale will be completely banned. In addition, the act will not hinder the activities of leather industry.

"According to the Anti-cow Slaughter Act of 1964, there was provision for slaughtering cow, buffalo and bull which are more than 12 years old. However, according to the recent amendment, cow and ox cannot be slaughtered till their lifetime. Buffalo and Bulls which are more than 13 years old can be slaughtered for meat,” he said.

Minister Prabhu Chauhan had earlier said that as the Anti-cow Slaughter Bill did not get approved in the legislative council, the government has decided to implement the same through ordinance.

Finally they came to their senses and know the difference between a bull and a Cow. Not that Bull or Buffalo meat should be consumed in India. The animals are not raised well and fodder quality is low producing very low quality meat. In Dubai the only people who eat Indian Buffalo or Beef are the labourers because it's the cheapest but not the healthiest meat in the market.

Who will check and how to check what is cow meat, bull meat or buffalo beat?
Also who will determine the age of the animal which has been slaughtered and changed into meat already? Will the government set up meat testing labs with qualified beef experts at a distance of every 100 metres in Karnataka?

Give proper education to hvp and bajrangdal activist to identify which is cow meat or baffelo meat. They may attack the person who are carrying baffelo meat. If its proved that baffelo meat than some politicians will come to their rescues saying it's by mistake.

But in our Mangalore Udupi side they dont know the difference between cow and bull. Just because they want to creat disturbance, they just haras the traders. Requesting our local MPs and MLAs should start some classes to Gow rakshakks about cow slaughter bill and rules. The people who take the law in thier own hands should be sent to jail.

In view of statement from Law Minister, no person should be arrested for possessing meat unless and untill it is verified that its cow meat. Buffallo/Bull meat is legalised. Authorities should respect this and avoid harassing innocents.

t's strange how some laws are passed with such enthusiasm and enforced on a war footing, whereas some never really get enforced on the ground level.

This government has succeeded in partitioning the country in various ways. Yes, the cow being a sacred entity is revered by the masses. But this attitude of banning it's consumption is basically getting the bull by it's tail, a total misuse of religion to please some.
Fine fine fine, no prob. I wait for the day this government has the guts to ban cigarettes in this country.

Religion should never have been mixed with politics. I know of so many individuals who while at home are staunch vegetarians , devour beef and sometimes even pork when opportunity calls. We are all human.
