Kundapur, Dec 28: National Highway Awareness Committee gheraoed the Sastan toll gate in order to obtain information from the concerned toll authority with regards to giving relaxation for locals from the FASTag mandatory rule that is going to be implemented from January 1, 2021.
The protesters urged the toll authorities to provide relaxation from FASTag compulsory rule to locals living around Sastan. They also asked the toll authorities to provide a separate gate for vehicles that fall under Kota zilla panchayat limits.
Speaking to the protesters, toll manager Basheer said that their higher officials have informed them that From January 1, all the vehicles have to have FASTag and there is no relaxation in this rule for locals.
The protesters expressed rage at the clarification given by toll manager Basheer and said that they might have to form a huge protest as earlier to get the relaxation from the rule. They said that MP Shobha Karandlaje has brought the facility of toll relaxation to locals through the deputy commissioner. Let the same continue in future also. Otherwise fight is inevitable, they said.
Toll manager Basheer asked for a day's time with the protesters to provide more information on their demand.
Shyamsundar Nayiri, president of Highway awareness committee, Alwyn Andre, secretary, Pratap Shetty, immediate past president, Irodi Vittala Poojary, secretary, eminent persons of the committee Prashant Shetty, Sandeep Kunder, Rajesh, Govinda Poojary and Ravi Tingalaya were present.
