Udupi, Dec 27: The newly-built presbytery of Christ Church, Manipal was inaugurated on Sunday December 27 by Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, the bishop of the diocese.
In his address, the bishop announced, "This should not only be a place of dwelling for priests, but also be a home of service. It is a dream come true for the parish inaugurated on Family Day. Pope Francis invited us to celebrate Family Day all over the world. Without the help of the parishioners, it would not be possible. The church provides all the spiritual needs of the people. It is a home for the parish which serves the people. A building becomes a home when people living in it.
"The new Apostolic mission 2025 work will begin from January 2021. In January, the members of various commissions will be trained to be involved in the new Mission 2025. I extend my gratitude to the generosity showered in completing the project. Let 2021 be filled with grace and health. The year is dedicated to St Joseph, the patron of the universal church. From March, the year of the family will begin. Let us make our families a model of a holy family."
A thanksgiving mass was also held prior to the inaugural ceremony. Fr Chethan Lobo, Capuchin PRO of the diocese of Udupi, Fr Fredrick D'Souza the parish priest of Christ Church Manipal, Fr Rolwin Fernandes, the assistant parish priest were present on the occasion.
Generous donors who had contributed toward the project and members of the finance committee were honored on the occasion by the bishop.
Speaking about the presbytery, Mary A R Sreshta, the vice-president of the parish pastoral committee said, "The contract of the project was given to Joy Infratech while the architect of the project was Deepak D'Souza. Joyan Lewis of Joy Infratech was very quick in his work and has ensured that the best quality materials are used in the construction. Because of the generous parishioners and well-wishers, the project has been completed. The presbytery includes the office of the priest and the priests' residence, a mini hall, and two guest rooms."
John Lewis, the father of Joyan Lewis was honored on the occasion for the service rendered by Joy Infratech in construction.
Fr Fredrick D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Regina Fernandes rendered the vote of thanks. Francis Passanna compered the programme.
The parish pastoral committee members and parishioners were present on the occasion.
