Covid-19: 16 UK returnees test positive, after fresh testing

Panaji, Dec 27: After fresh RT-PCR test were conducted on 16 travellers who arrived in Goa after December 8 have been tested positive. All have been referred to the isolation facility at the ESI hospital in Margao.

425 passengers were subjected to tests in the last two days. Since December 9 around 979 travellers have arrived in Goa. 11 were tested positive initially on arrival. The samples of other passengers will be sent for genomic study to Pune.

Goa added 61 fresh cases, 87 recoveries and three deaths taking the tally of active cases to 950 and mortality count to 732. While thousands of revellers have arrived in Goa to ring in 2021, unlike every year, the state will miss foreign guests due to curbs on flying.

Although the mutated coronavirus variant reported in England has worried travellers, the state government has refused to impose any night curbs in a bid to attract more guests in the state
