Kumaraswamy urges farmers to try new farm laws for a year as 'experiment'

Bengaluru, Dec 27 (IANS): Former Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday urged the agitating farmers to consider Union Minister Rajnath Singh's appeal to try the three new farm laws as an "experiment" for a year or two.

Kumaraswamy also requested the Centre to protect 'country's international reputation' by solving the issue at the earliest.

Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and other states have been protesting along Delhi's border against new farm laws passed by the union government in September, which they fear will dismantle the minimum support price system and leave them at the mercy of big companies.

Several rounds of talks between their leaders and the government and multiple assurances from Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself have also failed to move them.

On Saturday, taking to Twitter, Janata Dal (S) second-in-command Kumaraswamy said the protest has begun attracting the attention of not only the country, but the entire world and has created an impression that is brewing some troubles in India.

"It is my sincere wish that the reputation earned by India at the international level and its image should not be dented by the new farm legislations as well as the protests against them," he said in a series of tweets.

Under these circumstances, he sought a decisive meeting to end the farmers' struggle.

"This is inevitable in the interest of protecting the country's dignity," he added.

The JD(S) leader also reminded the protesting farmers of views that Indian agriculture was caught in a vicious circle. "It is very much necessary on our part to be ready for any experiment if it can bring about welfare of the farm sector by rescuing it from the vicious circle," he said.

"(Rajnath Singh) had appealed to farmers to allow an 'experimental' implementation of the new farm legislations. He has also assured farmers of withdrawing the legislations," Kumaraswamy added while appealing the farmers to have an open mind.

It is now pretty evident, that the " Farmers agitation " was a conspiracy, cooked in the langar kitchen, in their home state of Punjab !!! They wanted to bring PM Modiji, on his knees... Likewise they had overtly supported the Anti CAA protests, with their frustrated Mahaghatbandan allies across lndia !!!!!

Expert economists have already pointed to the flaws in these laws along with exploitation/ flawed grievance redressal mechanisms - cannot approach a court to settle disputes-etc etc -
In such a situation a responsible leader.. former CM issuing such statements is baffling !
How can a law be an experiment ..it is in general permanent..
A LAW is to be introduced only if thought out / vetted by all stakeholders !
This is heavily in favour of few corporates and squeeze out whatever left from farm income..
While overall as a economy it is necessary for a gradual shift on gdp contribution..
Agriculture share less than 20 % in the gdp pool but has approx 60 % of population dependent on agriculture.. serious mismatch .. But cannot change this thru shock treatment.. by ILL thought out laws !!

Again proving to be B Team of BJP?
There is no experiments in laws, if the govt wants to experiment do it in a State or in a Territory, if it works better then only try to implement it on national level.
If the experiments cost more farmer lives then who will compensate them? Who will take care of their families. We have seen the experiments in Demonetisation & GST, enough is enough.
Scrap the Bills, do a dialogue with all the parties & farmers instead of helping crony capitalists usurp the power to buy, horde & sell at exorbitant rates later which they may not do for a year but will do so with bill getting the final nod.

Isn’t there a trial period before a bill becomes a law????...if this procedure is not followed then how the law is passed without assessing its feasibility, practicality and feed back by the concerned parties???????.....if a legal procedure is not followed among so many other violation of rules then all those laws are illegal and should be scrapped.
