Mangaluru, Dec 18: Days after ruckus prevailed in Karnataka Legislative Council over chairman’s post, which included manhandling of deputy chairman S L Dharme Gowda, a JD(S) MLC, by the Congress MLCs, BJP MLC Prathap Simha Nayak on Friday December 18, terming the chaos as a 'bad dream' said he would apologies to the people of state and regret the incident.
Addressing a press meet at his office here, he said, “The Legislative Council is called a 'thinkers hall', but the recent development in the Legislative Council affected democratic principles, constitutional values and morality.
“Though the BJP MLCs moved a no-confidence motion against chairman of Legislative Council Prathapchandra Shetty, he still continued to occupy the chair, knowing the reality. Hence, upholding constitutional values and on the grounds of moral conscience, Prathapchandra Shetty should resign from his position immediately. With intention to protect vested interests of Congress and for their frustration over BJP, they have used the chairman of the Legislative Council, '' he said.
“He would try to protect the interests of Congress while any bill is being tabled in the upper house by putting it on division of assembly,” alleged the MLC.
He also said that Prathapchandra Shetty being a custodian of the council, should uphold its dignity. "To protect the interests of Congress party leaders, involving in hate politics is not fair," he said.
He also added that BJP MLCs have written to the governor in this regard.
Former MLC and state spokesperson of the BJP, Capt Ganesh Karnik said, "The incident taking place inside the Legislative Council depicts goondaism of Congress. Being a national party, Congress MLCs have failed to uphold the constitutional, legal and moral values."
It may be recalled that the chaos began over a no-confidence motion against the chairman of the Legislative Council Prathap Chandra Shetty, who belongs to the Congress and BJP and JD(S) MLCs made deputy chairman S L Dharme Gowda, a JD(S) MLC to act as chairman.
