Mangaluru, Dec 18: Police commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikas said that notice will be served to commercial complexes for encroaching parking spaces.
He was speaking during the phone-in programme held at police commissioner’s office on Friday December 18.
He said, “We have noticed people parking their vehicles on footpaths. Also, commercial complexes have occupied footpaths for parking for its customers. Two months ago, we had identified 50 such locations and urged Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to take action. MCC authorities have failed to take action. Hence, we will serve notice and take action to vacate the illegal parking spaces.
“Once road widening and development works gets completed, we will designate parking spaces for public. We are identifying the no parking spaces. When public park vehicles in such places, it will affect safety and general traffic as well,” he said.
91 complaints on 112 single emergency number
The police commissioner said, “Since the launch of single emergency number 112, we have received 91 complaints, among which one case has been filed about a family issue pertaining to property. Among the 91 complaints, most of them are petty cases which were addressed immediately and resolved.
“The main purpose behind emergency number 112 is to reduce the reaction time. Due to this emergency number, petty problems will resolved faster,” he said.
During the phone-in programme, most calls dominated on issues pertaining to parking.
