Mangaluru: 15 smart poles to keep vigil, help people, administration

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 18: The work of installing 15 smart poles, which are a part of the Smart City project, is under progress. They are meant to convey quick information to the people and to keep a close watch on the spot. These smart polies are being installed at various junctions in the city.

In the first phase, 15 smart poles are being installed. In the second phase, 15 more of them will be set up. These poles have modern cameras which can capture movements even at night. They help in identifying the accused involved with crimes. Each of these poles cost about Rs five lac. Smart City officials say that the cost may go up or down depending on the model of the pole and camera being installed depending on the areas.

In the city, smart poles will come up at St Agnes College Junction, Lower Bendore, Kankanady, Morgans Gate, Rao and Rao Circle, Kadri circuit house, Padil, Marnamikatte, and Lalbagh. Work on the poles have already begun at Kavoor, Padavinangady, Ladyhill and Pumpwell where poles have been installed. The one at Mallikatte has not been functioning as the display has been fixed on the inner side. By month end, it might start functioning. The installation of poles at Kottara and Vamanjoor has been withheld pending proposed road development works there.

Each of these poles have 360 degree camera and three to four additional cameras. Smart display gives out different information to the public like rain, temperature, pollution level, vehicle density at different roads etc. It also has push button facility to convey information to city command and control centre. The poles can be made 5G compliant. It has control panel and Wi-Fi connectivity.

City corporation commissioner Akshy Shridhar, said that smart poles are part of the process of developing the city into smart city, He said that these poles will be helpful to the people and the administration.

It is physically impossible to monitor every hostile, anti social elements and criminals activities in any city... Installations of these high resolution cameras are a boon to the city intelligence agencies, operating in Mangaluru city... In " Amchi Mumbai " we have more then 6000 cameras, operational under a command and control center of our police force... they are manning every nook n corner, keeping a hawk eye, on destructive elements... more then 7000 new cameras are getting installed.... Also private cameras in housing n commercial centers will also be directly linked to the police control hub, ensuring 100% surveillance of the financial capital of our nation....

Hahahah... Smart? Do you have a plan to lay gas pipelines without breaking and making the roads again? But one fact is Mangalore is much better compared to other cities..
There is a good scope to develop the waterways from Ullas to Kulur. What has been done here ? That waterbody is begging for some development. Atleast some coastal roads and ferry services please.

Smart surveillance monitoring system of the nagarik.

But there is no smart monitoring or thinking to improve the inefficient, dishonest, unaccountable services of the administration.

Shut down the IAS ,IPS and ICS , melt all the fat from the overfattened staffing in govt. offices and install smart robots to perform their duties and overnight we shall have efficiency in govt. service.

What it takes 1000 govt. servants to do , private company can do with 10 people. Cut the flab!

How about that! Any smart ideas from the unsmart nagariks who have acqueised to the smart surveillance state?

Agree sir .. One should visit MCC and see the staff efficiency .."Naale Banni" is their key word ..IF you ask them how many days it will take for a small change ,they are non committal on that ..
They also accept your letter with a sign and stamp which displays " Vishaya Gothilla" .

Hope these poles last or function for at least five years. Not like the traffic lights in Mangalore. So many places in Mangalore the traffic lights are just installed and not functioning. Somewhere someone has made some good money in installing the traffic lights.
