Udupi, Dec 18: "The farmers should not fall prey to the conspiracies hatched by the Tukde Tukde Gang. It is ludicrous that even students of Jawaharlal Nehru University have taken to streets to protest in the name of farmers. The political parties which have joined others to fight against the agricultural bills show their dual faces," said Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje. She addressed a press conference organized at the district BJP office here on Friday December 18.
Karandlaje said that the central government has passed the bill after holding discussions with the leaders of all the political parties. She said that these parties have been acting out a farce and have been showing their opposition to BJP in the name of farmers. She explained that the bill was passed with the specific aim of keeping middlemen out of the sale of agricultural products in APMC system. She advised farmers not to be fooled by the conspiracy of the Tukde Tukde Gang and recalled that when Sharad Pawar had written to all the states to support this bill, he was the union agriculture minister.
"If there are genuine demands from the farmers, we are ready for a dialogue,” she said. Karandlaje said that demand for the release of Umer Khalid by the protesting farmers is nothing but a farce. She said that the bill is beneficial to the farmers and it is backed by a long range vision of the Prime Minister.
Karandlaje wished that good people who are against corruption should get elected in the gram panchayat election and utilise grants coming to panchayats from the government. She said that the central government is ready to allot Rs 31,000 crore to Karnataka government which will be distributed based on the population and development initiatives of gram panchayats. She said that the government wants to provide drinking water to all houses in the country through pipes by 2024 under the Jaljeevan Mission.
BJP district president Kuilady suresh Nayak, secretary Kutyar Naveen Shetty, MLA K Raghupati Bhat and others were present at the press meet.
