Mangaluru: Civic workers hold protest over salary dues, other issues

Mangaluru, Dec 17: Workers of Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd including drivers of solid waste transport vehicles staged a protest in front its office at Baikampady, pressing various demands on Thursday December 17.

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) joint commissioner who visited the protest venue, assured civic workers of providing monthly salary very soon. He also sought time to provide bonus to the workers.

It is said that the Antony Waste Handling Cell has assured of providing monthly salary by January 21 and bonus in the same month. The company has also assured of providing overtime wages, repair vehicles in time and look into the issue of harassment of employees by officers.

The civic workers also threatened to hold indefinite strike if their monthly salary was not credited to their account by January 21.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd senior manager Prakash said, “A few workers protested pressing demands. Salary will be credited to their account by this Saturday. To be on the safer side, we have asked for time till next Tuesday.

Earlier on Thursday, the civic workers as a mark of protest, did not collect garbage in the city. They were back to work at 12 noon.

    Garbage is never collected daily by these civic workers, and whenever delay in picking up garbage the stray dogs destroy the plastic bags and mess up the area.You cannot dispose in bins anymore as there are no proper places to dispose .

    you are not supposed to dispose wet waste in plastic bag...they shout and announce that everyday and they dont collect and just leave the wet waste there itself. surprised you still use plastic bag, we are supposed to keep it in closed plastic bins

    All Politicians, servants of Indian voters/tax payers, are busy with election issues, religion issues, cattle issues, totally politics. where is the time to think about the civic issues, labour problems, Day to day economies.

    Pay their salaries quickly even they have a family to feed and Authority should make sure trucks are maintained also. Look at the picture and then look at how trucks are moving in mangalore. There is a sheet provided so that waste doesn't fly instead of using that these sit inside the waste area 5 sanjis will be hanging from all sides...

    Mangagala ooru is definitely turned to be land of monkeys.

    citizens are not bothered about any issues in the city.

    MCC is totally corrupt. Pollution and quality of drinking water is at its worst.

    This will not be smart city in another 100 years also. Only Mysuru is the best city in Karnataka.
