Panaji, May 29: The state government today refused to hand over police-drug peddler nexus case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In the submission to Goa Bench of Bombay High court, the state government said that at this stage there is no necessity to hand over the case to independent agency like central bureau of investigation (CBI).

Assistant solicitor General Carlose Fereira told the bench that if required, senior police officer would investigate the case.

The bench has asked the state to come with detailed statement on the issue by Wednesday.

Seven policemen were suspended and arrested for their alleged nexus with drug peddler.

Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala was caught on spy cam by his former girlfriend Lucky Farmhouse bragging about his links with policemen.

High court, which is hearing the bail petition of suspended police inspector Ashish Shirodkar, on Wednesday had asked the prosecution to cross check whether state is giving the investigations to independent agency like CBI.

Crime branch, which is currently probing the nexus, has already arrested Atala and has found that Shirodkar was also on the pay roll of another drug dealer David Driham alias Dudu.
