Mangaluru, Dec 16: The taxis which had been hired during the months of May and June last to manage corona containment zones have finally been paid the hire charges. These taxis had been hired by the Dakshina Kannada district health department and also police department.
These taxis had been released from their hire contract obligations during the first week of July. The district administration had not paid their dues.

The taxi owners were facing problems as the hire charges were kept pending for long even after five months. An amount of about Rs 30 lac was to be paid to 20 cars hired in Dakshina Kannada district limit. When the taxi owners went public with their grievances, the district ministration had said that the bills were kept pending for verification of the genuineness of the claims.
Deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V had promised to call taxi owners to the office and settle the dues. On Tuesday December 16, rent was credited to the bank accounts of these taxi owners.
