Udupi, Dec 15: Over the last few months, complaints about the use of formalin in raw fish at Malpe port in the district has been surfacing. Concerning the matter, district deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha on Tuesday, December 15 has issued a warning against those who are indulging in the excessive use of formalin as a preservative for the fish.
The DC in his order stated that anyone who engages in unethical trade by using chemicals that are disastrous to human health will be prosecuted under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
In the event, people come across such cases, they can inform the authorities by calling on the toll-free number 1077, DC G Jagadeesha said in a statement.
On Monday, social activists had also submitted a memorandum in the matter, where they had urged the district deputy commissioner to take immediate action against the offenders.
