Udupi, Dec 15: Series of chain snatching cases were reported in broad daylight on Tuesday, December 15.
In all the incidents, women were targeted. Two miscreants came on motorcycles and snatched gold ornaments at four places in the district.
Two cases each were lodged at Udupi town and Manipal police station. The incident took place between 7 and 8 am within a few kilometres radius. Police suspect that the same two miscreants must be involved in all four cases.

According to credible sources, the incident took place in Brahmagiri, near MGM, Indrali and Kakkunje area.
Superintendent of police Vishnuvardhan speaking to Daijiworld said, “We have given instructions to all concerned local police stations to get the proper information from the complainants. We will crack the cases soon.”
Cases: Yashoda J Bangera (38), resident of Kothalkatte, Kaup employed as a housekeeper at Sairadha apartments, Brahmagiri was one of the victims of the incident. She was walking after work along the inner road of St Cecily's School to Brahmagiri at about 9.05 am on December 15 when an unidentified person arrived on a motorbike from behind and pulled her wedding chain. As she held on to the chain tightly it broke because of the force used to pull the chain. This led to the thief fleeing with a piece of the chain weighing around 10 gms and worth Rs 45,000. A case under serial no. 124/2020 has been registered in Udupi city police station under IPC Section 392.
In another case, complainant Gulabi Nayak suffered the ordeal when she was walking towards Durga apartments near MGM Ground in Shivalli village, Udupi at 08:45 am to A Nayak's house where she is employed as a house help. Just then an unidentified person aged between 30 to 35 years arrived on a bike from behind and pulled her gold chain in her neck with his might which caused the chain to break in two pieces. The accused fled with the piece which was left with him. The piece of chain snatched by the thief weighs approximately 12 gms and is worth Rs 50,000. A case under serial no 125/2020 under Section 392 IPC is registered in Udupi city police station in this connection.
The third victim of the chain snatching case is Chandramouli Padmini Devi resident of Laxmindra Nagar, Manipal who was walking towards Kamakshi temple. When she reached the fifth main road of Rudra Priya Nagar, a stranger approached her on a motorcycle and snatched a gold chain from her neck weighing 30 gms. The chain is worth Rs 1.25 lac. A case under serial no 208/2020 under IPC Section 392 is registered in this connection in Manipal police station.
The fourth victim is Jayanti (55) a resident of Kunjibettu, Udupi. She had arrived by bus from Perampalli Church bus stop and got down at Santosh Nagar bus stop and was walking towards Panjurli temple along the mud road when an unidentified person on a bike snatched a gold chain from her neck. The jewellery weighed 10 gms and is worth Rs 50,000. A case under serial no 209/2020 under IPC Section 392 is registered in Manipal police station.
