Mangaluru, Dec 12: The first phase of the census, which was to be undertaken between April 1 and September 30 next year, has been postponed because of lockdown. As the postponed dates have not yet been announced, the preliminary preparations relating to the census have become sluggish.
Till March this year, all the processes related to the census were conducted as per the instructions from the government. Higher level officials were given training. By the time training began for the enumerators, lockdown began.
One phase of the training process to officers and staff has been completed. Two master trainers were trained at Bengaluru. As many as 35 tahsildar level officers who will function as charge officers were trained by the master trainers. Even 114 field trainers have been trained. Sixty-four computer operators have been appointed to pool information collected through the census app.
The government has asked the concerned to keep ready clear cut borders of the taluks so that the newly created taluks get proper implementation and development works of government schemes on the basis of their population figures.
Both the district administrators said they will give fillip to the process of census once clear instructions are received from the government.
