Mangaluru, Dec 12: The announcement of Mangaluru City Corporation to bring down property and drinking water rate has remained on paper. It has not been implemented far.
The above decision had been taken at the general session of the corporation in August this year. Even after four months, the decision has not been implemented and the benefit has not been passed onto the people.
City mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar had announced reducing property tax and drinking water rate when he took over charge. Thereafter no monthly session was held because of coronavirus. The opposition had joined hands with the ruling party in taking the above decision.

The corporation says that the decision was sent to the government and its approval is awaited. But the people do not understand why they cannot get the approval when their own government and legislators of the same party from the city are present there.
The corporation has recommended to the government to bring down water rates and increase the usage of water. In the property tax, recommendations to bring down solid waste management tax have been made, said Pandeshwar. He says the corporation is awaiting government's clearance.
