Byndoor, Dec 12: The cable car project that enables people to zoom from Kollur to the summit of Kodachadri hill in 15 minutes, will be completed in three years. The project involves an outlay of Rs 1,000 crore.
“The state cabinet has decided to set aside 100 acres of land for the project. Three spots, Halliberu, Dali, and Salageri, have been identified for going from Kollur and to get down from Kodachadri. Final decision will be taken after choosing the spots with least number of trees. The area through which the cable car passes belongs to the forest department. Its clearance has been sought now. Within a few months, work will start and in three years, this project will be a reality,” said Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty.
The actual distance between Kollur and Kodachadri by road is 32 km but the cable car distance will be 11 km. The cable car travel will be a thrilling experience with lush green surroundings. Time of travel will be less. The tourism department, when drawing the project, has taken care to see that development works do not damage the natural beauty.
At the same time, there is opposition to the cable car, as many believe that this is unscientific. The activists believe that the project will disturb the peace in the area and medicinal and sensitive bi diversity be destroyed. Kemaru Esha Vittaladasa Swamiji has said that environmentalists along with Kodachadri Ulisi Horata Samiti, Kollur Jeep organization and Paschima Ghatta Ulisi Samiti will fight against the project.
