Mangaluru, Dec 12: Sadat (50), relative of Sharik, who is from Thirthahalli, has been taken into custody by the police personnel relating to the case of anti-national graffiti appearing at two spots in the city. Sadat allegedly provided shelter and monetary assistance to Shaarik, his relative.
Sadat was produced in the court on Friday December 11, upon which the court remanded him to two days police custody for completing corona test formalities. Sadat became the third person to be arrested in the case, investigation into which is being conducted briskly.
Sadat is a textile merchant. Apart from providing shelter and financial assistance to Shaakir, he reportedly inspired Shaarik to undertake such adventures. The police have been putting together information of the association between these two. The investigation so far suggests that Maz Munir and Shaakir may be having international contacts and to investigate the case from this angle, the police might seek additional police custody of the arrested accused.
The police have kept the accused in a high security spot in the city. They have conducted inquest but further inquests are necessary. In the meanwhile, it is said that the parents of one of the accused have come to the city to meet their son.
The police reportedly gathered during their questioning that a person living abroad had asked the accused Shaakir to create an air of apprehension and wave of fear in the city. The plan was three months old, and the person who had made the said international call from the city is yet to be identified.
Relating to the case, the police officers held a meeting on Friday too. There is the likelihood of the admin of a WhatsApp group based in Pune in which the accused were active being arrested.
